John Frazier - Mandolin, Lead & Harmony vocals

A. Lonsdale

Raised in the great bluegrass stronghold of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, John's earliest musical memories date back to hearing his grandmother playing and singing pop standards from the 20's and 30's on the piano. Involved in church and group singing throughout his childhood, he studied violin and piano as a youth and took up guitar in his early teens. John was involved in a progressive rock band called Tangent, and also the glee club and theater at his high school.

John moved to Boulder in the fall of 1998 to begin studying at the University of Colorado. Shortly thereafter, he took up the mandolin and began studying bluegrass and related acoustic music. John started the bluegrass band Tall Trees Grove, which played regionally in Colorado, and especially in Boulder from 1999-2002.

Always eager to draw on real life experience as inspiration for his original music, many of Frazier's original tunes featured in Hit and Run fit squarely into the bluegrass sound while at the same time adding new perspectives and ideas.
